The Senior Development Officer will be primarily responsible for securing gifts or pledges of $25,000 or more from individuals, corporations and foundations.  The SDO will have a high-degree of interpersonal relationship skills and excellent communication skills across all areas. The position will work with alumni and friends who are already major contributors and also be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and thanking new supporters.  The position will be responsible for generating referrals from donors and have the ability to turn those referrals into face-to-face visits.

The Officer will be skilled at moving prospects to a decision that achieves their philanthropic goals, as well as the goals of the university.  The position requires strategic thinkers who understand university funding priorities and how to match interested donors with those causes.
 
The SDO will have a professional knowledge of current and planned giving vehicles and work with other university staff to facilitate such gifts.  The Officer will be committed to the mission of the university and able to persuasively communicate that mission to individuals and groups in a variety of settings.  The position will be able to maintain focus and consistency while working on a variety of fund raising projects.  While the focus of the position is on capital projects, the SDO will also be responsible for raising annual fund support.  The position will be accountable for meeting goals in the areas of personal visits, dollars raised, referrals received, stewardship, management, among others.
